All April long, before each lunch and dinner shift at Gramercy Tavern, his three-star Flatiron district restaurant, the employees take turns reciting poems for one another before they hit the floor. Over the course of a decade he produced thousands of such works, many of which were included in Lunch Poems, the 1964 collection of some of his most accomplished verse. Kenn Nesbitt is the author of several collections of funny poetry for kids, including My Hippo Has the Hiccups, Revenge of the Lunch Ladies, and The Aliens Have Landed at Our School! His web site, Poetry4Kids has been a go-to site for poems, activities, and fun for kids. His poetry is notable for its insistence on joy and consumerism alongside loss and skepticism.
